Like Walking In Glue

Lee Perry

That’s how Lee Perry once described the motion of the skank. I’m at the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn right now setting up for the second Slackers Holiday Show. There’s one more left; that’s Monday in Philly (the show was pushed back to Monday due to the weather). Download Winter Skank for free now:

Slackfest 2009

Busy week for me. I’m going down to the Cackalacks for a benefit show – support the Scott Free foundation, they send underpriveleged kids in North Carolina to summer camp. I’ll be spinning funk, soul, country, and folk for folks down in Raleigh. But first…

It’s Slackfest 2009! Once again I’m bringing out the heavy Jamaican crates to spin between sets for The Slackers, alongside Mighty Fine, Sean Wheeler and Zander Schloss (Circle Jerks). You’ll be hearing some ska, rocksteady, reggae, soul and anything that makes you wanna move. Tickets are $16 in advance and $18 the night of the show, doors open at 8pm.

ArtCrime at Belmont Lounge

Due to some building code violations at 205 Chrystie, ArtCrime is temporarily taking up residency at the Belmont Lounge (near Union Square) until further notice. Bonus: no cover until this situation is sorted out. Spend that ca$h on drinks instead. Furthermore, rumor has it that there will be a Motown vs. Stax battle early on in the night. Peep us this weekend:

Summer Is Almost Gone

I want to make sure it ends on a high note. I just got back from Bermuda and wanted to shed some light on one of my favorite underrated producers: Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys. Kicking things off with Brian’s favorite song of all time, I reconstructed his works into a psychedelic mix for everyone to enjoy this Labor Day weekend. Now up for free download… All Summer Long: The Brian Wilson Mix.

I Know You Got Soul

Stax

When life comes at me hard and I need to slow down, I always put on a bit of southern soul. It’s just what the doctor ordered to deal with the inescapable grind of modern life. Sometimes you just have to put it in first gear and cruise. Motown was great, but there has always been a special place in my heart for the syrupy sweet selections on Stax Records. I’ve mixed up some of my favorites here on the Stax Of Stax Mix, just in time for summer’s laziest days:

Stax Of Stax

And if you like soul, then you’ve got to come see The Slackers do their thing at this year’s booze cruise around Manhattan. Their live show is not to be missed, and I’ll be spinning classic reggae, ska and rocksteady between sets for your listening pleasure. The boat leaves the pier at 11:30 sharp, so don’t be late!

Mr. Echo Inna Killa Dub

Of course, I wouldn’t leave you hanging on this 4/20. Here’s a brand new mix of Jamaican gems from the dusty crates. I present to you Mr. Echo Inna Killa Dub:
