The end of an era

It’s finally time. All my people in college are graduating and the last gasp of the Francis Estate is upon us. Note that this will be at another house near the Ford dealership, since my landlord won’t allow me back in my old house (no joke). That should give you some indication of how ridiculous our parties are. If you’ve ever been promised debauchery of mythical proportions when you got to school and were sorely disappointed by legions of douchebags, this is for you. We don’t fuck around and this Saturday is your last chance, Maryland. Twist your shirt around your head like a helicopter when I drop Petey Pablo’s “Raise Up” All City Remix:

The Badonkadonk Smackdown

– Pay for Cup

I woke up early on my born day…

BIG UP Ryan-O’Neil. Happy 23rd you bumbo claat rasta. In other news, we’ll be at Niagara tonight around 10:30 or 11. What is it with these unreadable flyers lately? Anyway, come dance. Oh yeah… Karma done fucked up and won’t let anyone on the mic for April 11th. However, it’ll be me and It’s Overture punishing the decks from 8:00 PM on. I know it’s a Wednesday, but I’m on from 8 til 11 for you nine-to-fivers and then Overture will take over. Then me and Ryan got Niagara again the 19th and we fly upstate to HWS College for a show on the 21st. The album is coming along nicely, so come see us if you want to hear some gems before they’re released into the wild. Last thought: I came across Stretch Armstrong’s blog recently and some of you might appreciate the rare shit he’s posting:

Knitting Factory Debut

We’re headlining a show at the Knitting Factory on March 24th – I’m spinning classic tracks for an hour or so and then Ryan-O’Neil will spit his meanest verses for you in top form. Expect to hear lots of new original material mixed with classic ish. There will also be a freestyle battle for a cash prize. Here’s the flyer. I know it’s hard to read but if you bring one, it’s $7 instead of $10. It’ll be worth it.

Colonel K Speaks… to me

That monthly we were aiming for at China1 (Antique)… yeah, we locked it down. The owner liked us so much he asked me to take over the downstairs bar the next weekend. We’ll be back for the monthly kickoff on Saturday, June 30th. It’s getting hectic trying to keep everyone up to date on what I’m doing and still have time to actually MAKE music, so I’ve finally added a mailing list. See that box to the right? Throw your email in and hit Join. I’ll get at you with new shit every once in a while. Ryan and I are working hard on finishing our debut. Hear some brand new tracks this Friday:

’07 is well underway, let’s get this ball rolling. Colonel K, aka The Reverend, aka the venerable Patrick Kagwa Kigongo has been kind enough to put together a little piece on me and I suggest you all go read it. Why he’s not yet writing for a music magazine, I’ll never know. Also… Ryan and I are getting booked for more and more shows. Come out and support us, especially at the Knitting Factory on March 24th. It’s a Saturday so you have no excuse not to come hear our new joints before the album drops.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Seeing as you all have given me such love for the new shit, I figured it’s time to repay you (yes, already). I got inspired last night and put together a little mix for Valentine’s Day. Enjoy:

Brenner’s Breaks

Imagine a world where Tony the Tiger has a coke problem and Toucan Sam is responsible for smuggling said coke into the US. If that’s not enough, that asshole frog from Smacks cereal is always on the corner and Sugar Bear just can’t be satisfied until his girls get that money. Now imagine this gang hosting a mixtape featuring remixes of MF Doom, Ghostface, Raekwon, Public Enemy, Outkast, Nas, and Roots Manuva… along with original material by newcomers J-iLL and Ryan-O’Neil. All produced by 100dBs? Sheeit… Oh yeah, I also did some remastering of the Argyle Album. Nothin major, but the levels should be a little more consistent track-to-track now.

Without further ado, I present to you… Brenner’s Breaks Volume 1. Free to all who wanna bounce in the whip to that real live shit. Dedicated to the memory of Dilla, who passed away one year ago on February 10th.

Thank you for your support.

First and foremost, let me take a moment to wish J Dilla a posthumous Happy Birthday. I’d be lying if I said he wasn’t a huge influence on me and a million young producers. It’s been a year since he passed and we’re STILL getting previously unheard material from dude. GO COP THE RE-RELEASE OF RUFF DRAFT ON MARCH 20th. Recognize.

On another note, let me say thanks for being patient. School was a bitch, and I’m never going back… so you can expect near-constant output from me now. Hate it or love it. Seriously, everyone who still kind of believed that I was eventually gwan release BBV1, STAND UP. The shit is in the final stages of mixing and will be up here in a few days for download. No release party, no pressing, just that straight crack for download. I kept y’all waiting so long that I don’t believe in making a big deal of it. Just enjoy the new shit. And oh yeah… a little birdie told me that Ryan-O’Neil and some short dude who makes beats have been cookin’ up some serious shit that’s just waiting for a warm day, so it can be put out on the windowsill.
