Lotus with DJ Eleven tonight.

I’m doing an early set opening for Eleven tonight. If you don’t know DJ Eleven yet, punch yourself in the face, then stop by Turntable Lab and pick up one of his mixtapes – he’s nice with it. And if you don’t know me yet, maybe you will after tonight.

More reviews of the album are still coming in. Some props for Ryan:

“Turns out, hip hop’s not dead. O’Neil solidifies this conclusion on the album’s final track, the red-hot ‘100 MCs.’ The Bandit discusses the magnetic draw that inspired him to rap, eventually leading to this – a smart, varied, and exciting album that should prevent anyone else from pursuing the genre’s big question.”Glorious Noise

Another feature and interview by a UK site:

“The beats sound modern, but with a major nod to that early/mid 90’s feel. I can’t front, it’s just tight. This isn’t an LP of a few standout tracks with a load of filler, it’s an album of complete consistency, back to front.”Urban Species

Guess who else decided our shit was worth featuring…

100dBs & Ryan-O'Neil at Okayplayer.com

“They don’t pretend to be Native Tongues or try to imitate the output of D.I.T.C., but they come off like the logical antecedent of those artists, as if the lineage from one to the other has remained unbroken by the last 10 years of capitalist confusion, or at least as if the reigns of those artists had continued uninterrupted.”Okayplayer

I’m off to Germany next week. Holla at a playa when you see him in the Berlin streets.

Who got the props?

“Fans of DJ Premier’s two-bar cardboard breaks and scratched out choruses come for the production, buhloone mindstate heads stay for O’Neil’s graduation ceremony laments.”Butter Team

“dBs plays the role of magician as well as maestro; he manages to cram a ridiculous number of sounds, samples, cuts, and scratches onto each track without the sum sounding like a crowded mess.”Beatbots

Can you taste that? That sweet syrup is called victory. Last week, Beatbots reviewed a Living Legends album, the new Aesop Rock, and The Adventures of The One Hand Bandit and The Slum Computer Wizard. Guess who came out on top?

I’m not one to dwell on these things, good or bad. There’s work to be done. So with that in mind, let me officially announce my reggae night, happening twice a month at China1 on Thursdays (starting this week):

Dubplate Style at China1

Thursday, September 27 – China1 – 50 Ave B, NY
– No Cover

I will be playing anything and everything related to JA. Feel free to shout REWIND at me. After all, it’s called Dubplate Style for a reason. What else? I’m opening for DJ Eleven (The Rub) at Lotus on Oct 5th, and doing a show in Berlin on Oct 20th thanks to the Antagonist crew.

The Aphex Twin blends are coming, sit tight.

No rest for the wicked.

Yes, 100dBs sleeps.

Yes, I sleep. That doesn’t mean you should. Our album has already been pirated on foreign blogs. In the interest of financial stability, I won’t tell you where, but I will say that I am impressed that it only took them a few days to bootleg our shit. I’m doing Thursday with Ryan at Niagara as usual, and on Wednesday I’ll be spinning at Pianos thanks to Ole. Come upstairs and say whatup:

Pornography at Pianos

Wednesday, September 12 – Pianos – 158 Ludlow St, NY
– No Cover

Cop the album now!

The Adventures of The One Hand Bandit and The Slum Computer Wizard

Ryan and I nearly killed each other, but the album got finished last week, and the release party was a huge success. Thanks to everyone who came out and showed us some love by grabbing a copy. If you haven’t gotten one yet, you’re playing yourself. Let me break it down like this: Ryan’s crazy Jamaican uncle talking his shit, a guest shot from Prince Po of Organized Konfusion, a posse cut with no hooks, songs that get you hornier than the Isley Brothers, and our mothers screaming on us. Yeah, our moms are on the album… so? The CD is $10 shipped to anywhere in the US (get at me personally if you’re out of the country) and the digital download is $8 for everyone:

Album Release Party

People! The time has come.

The result of a year’s worth of hard work, The Adventures of The One Hand Bandit and The Slum Computer Wizard will be presented on Saturday, August 25th in the Antique lounge, downstairs at China1 (50 Ave B between 3rd and 4th Streets).

To hear and cop the album before everyone else does, come before 10 for the listening party. This is all FREE, so put aside $10… the first 50 people to buy a printed copy of the album will receive some bonus material (word is Overture cooked up a crazy mix as a gift to our fans). The album will also be available for digital download next week, after we recover from the weekend:

JUST ANNOUNCED: The show is still free, but if you want to drop $20, you get an open bar from 9-11. Word to Big Bird. And oh yeah, please tell me you’ve heard Overture’s preview mix already:

Choose Your Own Adventure Mix

Almost finished…

The collaborative debut of The One Hand Bandit and The Slum Computer Wizard is in the final stages of mixing and sequencing, and will be out in August. We’ll be having a release party (most likely at China1) so get ready. This has been a year-long process for both me and Ryan – frustrating at times, rewarding at others, but well worth it in the end. We’ve put a lot of work into this and the first people to buy the album in August will get some exclusive bonus material along with the album. Guest shots? I’ll keep my mouth shut for now… let’s just say you’ll be enjoying this one front to back. I don’t believe in albums that aren’t dope all the way through. Shout out to Brooklyn Vegan who helped get the Voxtrot Remix downloaded over 1,000 times last week. This Saturday we’re back at China1 with a vengeance. It’s Overture are really killin it with the hip hop mixes lately. I’ll be spinning a good amount of that boom bap this weekend, but I think I might have to break out some ragga tunes so dusty that all people born after 1970 will just have to act like they know. Ah so it go:

Artcrime #1

A bunch of new shit for you today. First of all, I dug up an old Brennoir remix of the best Voxtrot song. Yeah, I know they’re hipsters and the hype has died down but that’s exactly why I feel this song needs to be revisited. I posted it in the new singles section (for stuff that I’m not sure I can or want to categorize). Also, the photo gallery is now fully functional. Old photos have been posted and new ones will be added as they get taken at shows. Most importantly… Theory Events is starting up our monthly Saturday this weekend in the basement of China1, Antique. Anyone who was there last time I did a set knows that wild Jamaicans follow me like I was ackee and saltfish. Don’t front, I’m a natural born soundmurderer:

Saturday, June 30 – China1 – 50 Ave B, NY

The mailing list is up.

That monthly we were aiming for at China1 (Antique)… yeah, we locked it down. The owner liked us so much he asked me to take over the downstairs bar the next weekend. We’ll be back for the monthly kickoff on Saturday, June 30th. It’s getting hectic trying to keep everyone up to date on what I’m doing and still have time to actually MAKE music, so I’ve finally added a mailing list. See that box to the right? Throw your email in and hit Join. I’ll get at you with new shit every once in a while. Ryan and I are working hard on finishing our debut. Hear some brand new tracks this Friday:

Hip Hop at Fontana's

Friday, June 15 – Fontana’s – 105 Eldridge St, NY

Theory Events at China1

We’re gunning for a monthly spot at China1. Support us by coming to the best free party in the East Village this Friday, thrown by Theory Events. This will be going on from 9pm til 4am, and I convinced Outputmessage to make the trek up from DC to open the night. Then it will be me and Verse (of It’s Overture fame) taking turns on the decks, punishing China1’s sound system til they beg us to stop the murderation. Joining us will be rudebwoy Kerosene (whose last performance had Junior Demus putting his gunfinger in the air) and the big homie Ryan-O’Neil mindfucking you with his flows. If you hate real hip hop, dancehall, and hot bitches sweating to the not-so-oldies, then please stay at home this Friday. From what I hear the max capacity is 200 but you might just want to get there early, as this promises to be huge…

The end of an era

It’s finally time. All my people in college are graduating and the last gasp of the Francis Estate is upon us. Note that this will be at another house near the Ford dealership, since my landlord won’t allow me back in my old house (no joke). That should give you some indication of how ridiculous our parties are. If you’ve ever been promised debauchery of mythical proportions when you got to school and were sorely disappointed by legions of douchebags, this is for you. We don’t fuck around and this Saturday is your last chance, Maryland. Twist your shirt around your head like a helicopter when I drop Petey Pablo’s “Raise Up” All City Remix:
