Those of you who have known me for a while are well aware that my first love is reggae, not rap. A bunch of you have asked why I haven’t done a reggae mix yet. Now you can stop asking:
Cool out on Sunday afternoon and goddamnit, turn up the bass.
New York mixmaster cross-breeds Busta Rhymes, T.I., Nas and Snoop with the always-eerie Richard D. James. Fortunately, the results are not nearly as scary as the video for "Come to Daddy."

It’s been a long time. I shouldn’t have left you.
I know I’ve been quiet for a minute, but I’m in the middle of moving back to Brooklyn. I can’t stand the yuppies in the East Village any longer. Sorry guys, threatening to call the cops over noise at 9:30 on a Friday is not doing it for me. I had no idea I moved into an old folks’ home.
So now I’m rebuilding the studio and enjoying the freedom to bump shit as loud as I please. Also, Ryan and I live in the same apartment now. Brenner’s Breaks Volume 2 is in the works and there are some surprises in store. I won’t say anything else at the moment, but stay tuned…
Sometimes life just wants to kick you in the ass.
I know Valentine’s Day can be tough for some people. Forget about all that cute shit and get raw with this new mix:
In honor of this latest release, I finally got my shit together and set up a podcast. Click here to subscribe for free on iTunes.
Also… we’re running a little contest over at This Is Hip Hop. Crate diggers, do your thing.
Props to everyone who made Artcrime 5 another dope party this weekend. Scallywag and I have been in the kitchen for a minute, and now the party sauce is ready. Shake it to the ground every second Saturday at Pianos:
Saturday, February 9 – Pianos – 158 Ludlow St, NY
– $5
Respect also due to Kevin Nottingham, who hit me up for an interview after hearing The Adventures. Read it here.
It’s been a minute since Ryan got on stage, so come out and show the Bandit some love later this month at Southpaw. We’ll be sharing the stage with The Project, Nuclear Fam, and Cool Calm Pete. Where Brooklyn at?
Friday, February 22 – Southpaw – 125 5th Ave, Brooklyn, NY
– $10
Great news! I’ve been nominated for Urb’s Next 1000. If you love my music, click here to register and rate me.
Not so great news! This week is the last Rhythm Shower at Supreme Trading. Word on the street is my spot was usurped by Large Professor. Can’t argue with that… so come out tomorrow and shake your rump with me and Scallywag! $5 for a PBR and shot of bourbon, as usual.
Thursday, January 17 – Supreme Trading – 213 N 8th St, Brooklyn, NY

Okayplayer finally gave The Adventures an official review. The verdict is in… three and a half questies. Next time I want the full four.
“The one-two punch of 100dBs and Ryan-O’Neil recall hip-hop’s glory days of one emcee/one producer magic that keeps a consistent balance running from the top to the bottom of the record.” – Okayplayer
Last minute addition to the schedule for December… tonight I’ll be spinning at The Slackers Holiday Show, taking place at the Bowery Ballroom from 7pm on. For all you reggae heads still in the city, come out to hear classic roots, ska, and rocksteady all night! The list of past guests is bonkers: Alex Desert (Hepcat), Sturgeon (Choking Victim), Doreen Schaeffer (The Skatalites), Glen Adams (The Upsetters), and so on.
Sunday, December 23 – Bowery Ballroom – 6 Delancey St, NY
– $15
Don’t forget about Theory Events’ own holiday party on Christmas Eve at China1 tomorrow.
Jews feel left out during Christmas. It’s a fact, don’t be embarrassed. Celebrate your lack of holiday ham with us instead:
Monday, December 24 – China1 – 50 Ave B, NY

For those who missed it, I released another rugged mix last week. All I’m going to say is that the first track pits M.O.P. against Four Tet:
I’m now spinning every third Thursday at Supreme Trading, just off the Bedford stop in Williamsburg. $5 will get you a PBR and a shot of bourbon. Special guests TBA:
Thursday, December 20 – Supreme Trading – 213 N 8th St, Brooklyn, NY

Fact: Alex Decibels has a posse. Saturday night was wild. Thanks to all the College Park kids who came out to celebrate. I ended up driving back to Baltimore at 5 in the morning.
Hey, Stereogum finally noticed the Aphex Twin Mashups:
“Since it seems to be the theme (and meme) of the day, we’d be remiss not to point out Harder, Better, Faster, Self-Employed but our favorite’s Touch It While Pissed Up for its schizo mix of old- and new-school vocal cadences. The title doesn’t hurt either.” – Stereogum
Dust off those Cosby sweaters for Thanksgiving weekend. If you’re stuck in the city, at least you can party in style:
Saturday, November 24 – China1 – 50 Ave B, NY
– No Cover
Decibelle is having a birthday party this Saturday in College Park. If you’re in the area, swing by WMUC and shake your ass. I’ll be spinning tunes with the Fives Kids.
The Aphex Twin Mashups got the internet goin’ nuts:
“New York mixmaster cross-breeds Busta Rhymes, T.I., Nas and Snoop with the always-eerie Richard D. James. Fortunately, the results are not nearly as scary as the video for Come to Daddy.” – Rolling Stone
Tonight is Soundclash with Iron Lyon and friends. See you in Williamsburg:
